Baptism

About Baptism

We are so excited that you are considering baptism for your child! Every child can have a personal relationship with Jesus, and in Summit Kids we encourage them to make a decision to follow Him. Our children are encouraged to not just learn about Jesus, but learn from Him by walking with Him every day.

We advise parents to wait until their child is asking to be water baptized. This is usually a good indication that they are ready to be baptized and that it will be a spiritual milestone in their life. While younger children under the age of seven can have a relationship with Jesus, they will not necessarily remember or understand the significance of the event, so we encourage parents to wait for baptism until they are a little older.

As you discern if your child is ready to be water baptized, here are some questions to ask your child. The following answers show that your child understands.

  • When did you decide to follow Jesus and ask Him to forgive you?
    • Your child should have a specific memory of when he or she understood what Jesus did, and that he or she needs Jesus in their life. It may have been at church, at home, or even sometimes when they were alone.
  • What does it mean to be water baptized?
    • It means I’m following Jesus. It means I’m a Christian and I want to show the world. It’s a picture of what Jesus has done on the inside of me.
  • Why do you want to be water baptized?
    • Because Jesus was baptized and he tells us to be baptized also. Because I’m a friend of Jesus and I want to follow Him. To show what Jesus has done in me.

What we're all about

Our Curriculum

We want to partner with you in providing a loving & nurturing environment for your children.  We use curriculum called ORANGE which operates under the principle that the light of the church (yellow) plus the love of the family (red) creates a successful system for growing and developing your children (orange).

While they are here, we will make sure they have fun while learning about God. When they go home with you, you will have the opportunity to reinforce the message all week long by utilizing their take home material.

Nursery

(0-2’s)

Infants will enjoy the playful environment of the Nursery while being lovingly cared for in safety. If we sense that your child needs your attention, we will put their check-in number on the screen in the Main Auditorium so you can respond privately and quickly.

Toddlers

(3 year old-5 year olds)

Toddlers have their own room with a semi-structured playtime and lesson. This allows them to be introduced to the Bible, sensory activities, and games as they continue to grow and develop.

K-2nd graders

The K-2nd graders have their own room with a more structured playtime and lesson. We continue to build relationships with them and teach them lessons from the Bible. They get to do crafts, play games, and have free play time.

3rd-5th graders

The 3rd-5th graders will love playing with their friends as they create crafts, sing and dance to worship songs, listen to and participate in the Bible lesson, and enjoy a variety of group games and activities.

Elementary

(K-5th)

After Check-In, your kids will go straight to their classrooms for opening activities that help introduce the day’s Bible lesson. Next, they’ll head to the Kids Auditorium for their own time of Children’s Church – engaging worship, a fun game, and a message! Following that, they’ll return to their classrooms for memory verse games and lesson application activities.

Summit Haven

During the 9:00 Service at our Indiana Campus, we offer this program for kids who have extra needs. We have one-on-one Buddies, if a child needs one, who will be able to assist kids in their classrooms so that they have the support they need to participate. We also have a Sensory Room with trained Team Members available for kids who need a short break or a quiet place to go. We have a Parent Questionnaire that will help us determine specific needs for each child so that we can better serve and care for them.

About Baptism

Baptism is an important step of obedience that shows others we have personally trusted Jesus for our salvation. Jesus was baptized when He was on the earth, and we do this to follow His example. When Christians are baptized, they are submerged under water to identify with the death and burial of Jesus and raised out of the water to identify with His resurrection.

What is Baptism?

We believe that water baptism is a public declaration of three important things: you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are beginning a changed life in Christ, and you are part of a new family. Learn about the significance of baptism and how you can be baptized at Highlands.
